“Pilates can be described as 3 words, stretch with strength and control, and the control part is the most important, because that’s what makes you use your mind!”

-Romana Kryzanowska, a protégé to Joseph Pilates

Pilates is an integrated, comprehensive system of physical exercise that is comprised of both mental and physical conditioning. Pilates is often associated as "abdominal work," but is beneficial for people of all ages and fitness levels. The creator, Joseph Pilates, coined the work "contrology" with the origins in the mat work he later designed the apparatus to help the body understand the resistance needed to develop control of the entire body.

Instructors will encourage clients to use their mind to control muscles, focus attention on core postural muscles that help keep the body balanced and provide support for the spine. Pilates exercises teach awareness of breathing, spinal alignment, and especially strengthen the deepest to the outermost abdominal muscles. We believe it is important to build a foundation of strength, flexibility, stability and stamina.  This improves one’s lifestyle- no matter the fitness level.  Over time this approach creates a strong foundation from which one can achieve new heights of physical fitness and control as well as emotional well being and balance.
